Herring Gull Larus argentatusFirst-winter, Warwickshire, September 2007 |

Note relatively short primary projection, and finely-patterned wing-coverts and tertials, which are all typical of first calendar-year Herring Gull. Fresh mantle and scapular feathers show internal spatulate and anchor marks, creating more delicate and somewhat barred pattern compared with juvenile.
