Third calendar-year Herring Gull, moulting from second-summer to third-winter plumage. Note the grey mantle and scapulars creating a saddle contrasting with the coverts and tertials. Several new grey median coverts are apparent among the older and generally brown-variegated wing-coverts. The bill shows extensive yellow but retains some black towards the tip.
