Sabine's Gull Larus sabini

Rare visitor. Fourteen records up to 2001.

Sabine's Gull breeds in the Arctic tundra and, during its pelagic migrations, it is a regular autumn visitor in small numbers to British coastal waters. It is very rare inland and most, though not all, records are in the aftermath of westerly gales.

In the West Midlands region there have been 14 records: 7 in Staffordshire, 3 in Warwickshire and 4 in Worcestershire. Four records involved adults and ten juveniles. Eight records were during September, five during October, and one in August.
