Most characters suggest that this is a 4cy bird moulting into fully adult plumage, though the extent of dark marks in the coverts and tertials would more normally be associated with 3cy. The innermost primaries are new and adult pattern. The outer primaries are old but probably third-generation (note clear greyish-white tongue on inner web). P5 is missing. There are blackish markings remaining on the primary coverts, some of the lesser and median coverts and the tertials. The secondaries are old (faded) but appear to be already largely adult-like with only limited dark streaking. The bare parts are fully adult-coloured and there is no sign of any black in the tail (though it is quite worn). Compare this individual with typical 3cy bird present during same period.
